HOSEF installs second computer lab at Kailua Intermediate School

Members and volunteers with the Hawaii Open Source Education Foundation (HOSEF) installed a computer lab in the Science Department at Kailua Intermediate School on Saturday, March 18, 2006. The effort was supported by a donation from Ned and Ann Dewey.

This is the second computer lab sponsored by the Dewey's and HOSEF at Kailua Intermediate. The contributors have been brought together by Derek Esibill, Science teacher at Kailua Intermediate.

The computer lab consists of a server and 16 computer terminals for students to use. The computers have been donated by local businesses and/or individuals, then refurbished by HOSEF. Each computer comes with a wide range of educational software, including word processing, spreadsheets, drawing, web and multimedia tools. All software, from the Linux operating system to the applications, are open source and freely available.
